Todd Lighthall aka Snowy!

Maple Sugaring  - March & April

Our best day program for Grades 3 & Up! This is our most popular environmental education program. Its only available during the "Maple Moon" as the sap flows and is boiled into syrup. It mixes history, ecology, and sweet maple sugar into a great 3 hour experience.  Every spring Oswegatchie is busy in the sugar bush.

If you want to know about the process of making maple syrup and the history behind maple sugaring this is the workshop for you. Learn how to tap a tree, collect buckets, and see the sap flow from the tubing. To finish the day join us in the sugar house for some boiling and maybe even a sample of the pure product.

The program includes a Pancake Meal Service with real Maple Syrup! Best for Grades 3 & up!

Autumn in the Adirondacks - Autumn

Picture
Autumn is the sweet spot in our yearly calendar. Its often warm, but with no bugs. This program takes kids through the forest to learn about how leaves change, wildlife prepares for winter, and what else is occurring in nature. Its a great time to be outside with wonderful foliage and exercise as the students hike and explore. Best for grades 2-4.

Pond Ecology - May & June

Picture
Have you every wondered what lives in Oswegatchie’s dark water? This workshop will allow you to discover the abundant life of aquatic insects. We’ll collect some pans and take a closer look; we will also explore the shore line so we can find what thrives just on the waters edge.  Best for grades 2 - 5, but flexible for all ages.

Snow Shoes - January & February

Picture
Oswegatchie can handle 40 people at a time on a snowshoe adventure. We have the ability to offer physically advanced hikes or easy going trips. We have 6 different sized shoes, so adults and children can all have a great experience. The only thing we do not control is the depth of snow!
